Tamara Ching interview | Susan Stryker interviews Tamara Ching, a sex worker, trans woman, and native San Franciscan. Ching extensively discusses her experience of living and working in the Tenderloin, describing sex work as a source of lifelong validation and pride, despite the harassment and violence she endured as a young woman from police offers and clients. Stryker and Ching also talk about political and religious organizing in the Tenderloin. Portions of this interview were used for Stryker and Victor Silverman's documentary Screaming Queens. |

Barbara Smith Keynote Address (1 of 2) | Barbara Smith's keynote address "Our Most Important Human Work," given at a meeting of the Philadelphia chapter of the gay men's anti-racism organization Black and White Men Together. Smith discusses how gay and lesbian identities can link people across racial divides, and she highlights the Black feminist movement as a blueprint for interconnecting different marginalized communities. She also discusses the interconnectedness of racism and homophobia, and she identifies activism and organizing as the key for reducing both racism and homophobia. There is a question and answer portion at the end, during which Smith discusses the role of solidarity in social movements. The Magic of Cherine | A video from the Charles Cyberski Videotapes collection. Charles Cyberski (February 12, 1949-September 28, 1993) was a gay video journalist and, with his partner Richard Wright (July 5, 1955-October 20, 1990), owner and operator of the mail-order video business Male Entertainment Network (MEN). MEN produced and sold videos documenting gay and lesbian events, including San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Day Parades, numerous leather competitions, and Gay Games; as well as lesbian and gay rights advocacy and AIDS activism.
From 2010 to 2011, GLBT Historical Society volunteer John Raines processed and digitized nearly all of Cyberski’s video collection. Raines added titles and a GLBT Historical Society watermark to the videos.
